Raoul Boch’s Italian-French dictionary is designed for anyone who requires precise and complete information on comprehension, writing and translation issues, and is particularly suitable for high school students. The seventh edition is, like its predecessors, brought to you by Zanichelli in collaboration with Le Robert.
The primary aim of this edition is to update the headwords and take on board all the most important new words and meanings, in both French and Italian. We have safeguarded, as always in this work, the need to provide not only reliable translation solutions for but also clear and thorough information for students. In particular we have added a wide range of terminology linked to social networks, new technologies and recent social changes, such as bidonvillisation , benchmark , complotiste , microbiome , mono-horaire , post-vérité , vapoter . During the revision of the work we have also updated a large number of examples to reflect more accurately contemporary society.
The Boch dictionary is highly-regarded in Italian schools and is used more than any other work of its kind. For this reason, learners’ needs have been a crucial consideration during the preparation of this new edition. In particular, usage examples have been revised to illustrate tricky grammatical features, especially contrastive issues, such as the agreement of past participles. The aim being to highlight the correct form without ambiguity.
The work contains numerous tools to assist with your written and spoken French and Italian. For example, there are around 750 boxes containing more than 7500 French collocations, that is, essential word combinations, to remind you that in French you say un froid de canard or serrer un nœud or perhaps make your French more natural using phrases like échec cinglant or déclencher l’enthousiasme . There are more than 300 usage notes too, offering important advice for those learning French, to examine grammatical issues, point out common mistakes or clear up uncertainties, such as the difference between oui and si , between voici and voilà , or explain the correct use of Madame , seul and assez .
